Other Questions
Where do I buy my ticket?
If you are buying your ticket with a credit or debit card (and a regular ticket that's available there), please buy from the ticket machine on the platform. If you're paying in cash or want a ticket that's not available in the machine, please pay the train manager. You can also buy tickets online and collect at the station, but this does not offer you a savig (you may get nectar points) for local journeys.
What if I miss my train into Melksham (or if it's cancelled)?
If you
miss your train - tough - wait for the next one. Different rules apply if you have missed it because you've arrived late to connect into the Melksham train because of a delay earlier in your journey caused by the rail industry - see our
London Fares page.
If your train is
cancelled, severly delayed, or rerouted via Bathampton so that it does not call at Melksham, the rail industry has a responsibility to provide you with a service. If the next train is within an hour or so, you'll be asked to wait for that (and there would be little point in alternative arrangements being made, as they take time and with a slower journey by road, you wouldn't gain anything by taking replacement transport). If there's a long gap after a cancellation or it was the last train of the day, you'll be offered a taxi or a replacement bus will be arranged.
Please make your need for alternative arrangements known to the station staff or - if none on duty - via the help point
Will I get a seat? Can I reserve a seat on the train?
Not guaranteed - but it is highly improbable that you will have to stand on any train that calls at Melksham in 2020. Trains were doubled in length last year (and prior to that seats ran out daily!) and whilst traffic is growing, there should be plenty of space for a year or two. Seat reservation is not possible on the local train, though it is on many connections.
How do I know if my train is on time?
There are many online resources available - you can see the informtion an hour or two ahead for Melksham
[here]. There is an alternative more detailed report on Real Time Trains
[here] and the TransWilts App
[here] lets you see how the trains are running from your phone for Wiltshire stations and other key destinations.
At Melksham station, a display board tells you about trains due in the next 100 minutes, and an information button will connect you to a customer service person if you need help or advice. At all stations on the line there are also display boards telling you about current running, and usually staff to help you too - they will also help you find your train as unlike Melksham there are multiple platforms at these stations.
Please note that the information in this document applies to journeys from MELKSHAM station. Different rules and / or options apply at other stations - especially where (for example) there is a staffed ticket office.
